Expertise in Wisdom Tooth Extraction

At Crown Dentistry of the Palm Beaches, wisdom tooth extraction is a routine procedure. Wisdom teeth often lead to complications as they emerge through the gums, especially when impacted.

An impacted wisdom tooth, growing at an angle instead of straight through the gum line, can cause pain, uneven emergence, or partial protrusion. This condition can lead to a flap of skin, known as an operculum, forming over the tooth, making it hard to clean and susceptible to infections like pericoronitis.

Tailored Anesthesia and Extraction Techniques

When such wisdom teeth cause problems or risk infections, extraction becomes necessary. This can range from a single tooth to all four wisdom teeth. We use local or general anesthesia, based on the doctor's assessment and patient preference, to ensure a comfortable experience.

The procedure involves gently loosening and extracting the tooth, sometimes in pieces if it's tightly impacted. We use soluble sutures for any incisions, which naturally dissolve over time.

Post-Surgery Steps for Recovery and Comfort

Post-extraction, we prioritize your rest and recovery. As anesthesia is used, arranging a ride home is essential. Some bleeding post-surgery is normal, and we provide gauze to manage it. If bleeding persists beyond 24 hours, contact us. To minimize bleeding, avoid lying flat; instead, prop your head up. We'll prescribe pain medication and may provide a cleaning solution for the extraction site.

For a few days post-surgery, your diet should consist of soft foods like gelatin, pudding, yogurt, mashed potatoes, ice cream, and thin soups. Avoid using straws and smoking, as these can affect the healing process. If you experience prolonged pain, bleeding, irritation, or any concerns about the healing process, we encourage you to contact us for a follow-up. At Crown Dentistry of the Palm Beaches, your health and comfort are our top priorities.
